Poeub “Mai” Lab, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
A private time for family gathering and prayers will be held at the Kimzey Funeral Home. A full funeral in Cambodian and Buddhist tradition will be held at a later date in California.
Poeub was born March 20, 1940 in Cambodia. She emigrated to the United States to escape the war and genocide in Cambodia in the late 1970’s – early 1980’s. She was a homemaker and resided in California for some 40 years before moving to Mt. Pleasant to be near her daughter a couple of years ago. She was very attentive to her Cambodian and Buddhist prayers. A very artistic woman, Poeub excelled in many crafts, especially pottery. She also learned to be very handy and able to repair items around the house.
Poeub is survived by her children – Saloun Phommachack, Sina Kay, Siyen Nall, Vannak Kay, Kattie Mayor and Roth Kay, several brothers and sisters, several grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A son, Vanna Kay, precedes in death.
