E. Mary Rockwell, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasa

A memorial service for Mary will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant. Pastor Jeffery A. McPheron will officiate. A private family burial will take place at Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, prior to the memorial service.

Mary Rockwell was born January 11, 1945 in Mt. Pleasant. She was the daughter of John Brewster Rockwell, Sr. and Eunice Matilda (Monson) Rockwell. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1963. In 1980, she was conferred with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Iowa Wesleyan.
Mary served 5 years as the Activities Director for the former Henry County Home. She worked in Des Moines before becoming the Executive Secretary of the Girl Scouts of Lake County in Waukegan, IL. She returned to Mt. Pleasant to help care for her father.
Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she had formerly sung in the Chancel Choir. She was a member of PEO, Chapter NZ, the South Center Club, the American Legion Auxiliary Post #58 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2561 all of Mt. Pleasant. Mary was instrumental in establishing the local chapter of NAMI - the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Mt. Pleasant. In 1994, she received the award for Outstanding Volunteer Leadership from NAMI, Iowa
Mary was a gifted vocalist who sang at many weddings and funerals. She was working on writing a book on Bi-Polar Disorder and how it affected her life.
Those thankful for sharing in Mary's life include a sister, Susan A. Rockwell-Lushin and her husband T. Laddie of Randolph, Vermont; a brother, John B. Rockwell, Jr. of Minneapolis, MN; her longtime companion, Ouida Naylor of Mt. Pleasant, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents and a brother - William H. "Bill" Rockwell precede Mary in death.
