Johanna Pidgeon Obituary

Johanna Esther Pidgeon, 89, of Salem, died Friday, January 30, 2021, at New London Specialty Care in New London, Iowa. Family and friends may call from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. Due to COVID restrictions, the family will not be present. The immediate family will have a private funeral service for Johanna at the Salem Friends Church. Interment will be in the Salem South Cemetery. Johanna Esther (Raab) Pidgeon was born November 15th, 1931 in Germany. She was the daughter of Michael Raab and Elisabeth (Kerr) Raab. Johanna had 8 brothers and 2 sisters. Johanna met Warren Pidgeon while he was serving in the US Army during the Korean War. They married on October 17, 1952 in Germany. When Warren was discharged from the service she traveled to Salem, Iowa and they settled on the Pidgeon Family Farm, now a Century Farm. Johanna was a certified nurse’s aide and worked at the Mental Health Institute and Henry County Health Center. Prior to becoming a nurse’s aide, she worked at the Iowa Ammunition Plant. She was an active member of the Salem Friends Church, a member of the Women’s Ministry at church and sewed many layettes for the missions.

Those thankful for sharing in Johanna’s life include her husband, Warren (deceased); their 4 children and their spouses – Helene (Michael) White of Lebanon, MO, Larry (Dianne) Pidgeon of Salem, IA , Joanne (John) Lateulere of Phoenix, AZ and John (Tammy) Pidgeon of New London, IA ; 10 grandchildren and their spouses – Michael (Rhonda) White, Todd (Mallory) White, Scott (Debra) White, Danny (Sabrina) Pidgeon, Katie (Grant) Mitchell, Kelly (Craig) Belknap, Rebecca (David) Tischler, James Weber (Ashley Morris), Darien Pidgeon, and Makenna Pidgeon; 21 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Johanna’s grandchildren affectionately called her “Granny Goose” because of her nurturing care and guidance. She was our own “Mother Goose”, and will be missed greatly by her family. Johanna is preceded in death by her husband Warren (2018), her parents and siblings. Johanna’s family thanks you for your support and presence.
