Herbert Carl Wester, 85, died on December 22, 2021 at the New London Specialty Care Center after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s Dementia.
Herb was born on May 22, 1936 in Concord, New Hampshire to Carl and Olga Wester. Herb graduated from Concord High School in 1954 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Herb served during the Korean War and was stationed in England. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1958, Herb attended New Hampshire Technical Institute and completed a course of study in Electronics Technology in 1960. Herb later completed an Associate in Applied Science degree in Industrial Electronics.
After graduating from Tech School, Herb was employed by General Electric and moved to Berlin, West Germany. Herb was eventually employed by the Federal Government and settled in Nashua, New Hampshire, working at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts. Herb worked there until retirement. Herb worked on many large projects which included travel to the Middle East and throughout the United States. Herb moved to Iowa in 2005 to be closer to his family.
Herb enjoyed bowling and repairing tube radios and televisions. Herb was an avid fan of Red Sox player Ted Williams. In his later years, Herb enjoyed travelling to Costa Rica for the winters. Pura Vida! Herb loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their activities. He was also known to always be in search of a “Good Deal”.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents and sister Sandra and brother Bob. Herb is survived by his brother Dick (Cecile) of Concord, New Hampshire and brother Karl (Silvana), also of Concord. Herb met and married Helga Jahn in Berlin, West Germany in 1964. They later divorced. Herb had one son, Herb (Cathy) Wester, Jr. of New London and four grandchildren: George of Mt. Union, Iowa, Leonard of Evanston, Illinois, Emmett (Paige) of Greensboro, North Carolina and Mary of St. Petersburg, Florida.
Herb’s family would like to thank all of the staff at the New London Specialty Care Center for the excellent care they gave Herb.
Herb wished to be cremated and buried with his family at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Concord, New Hampshire. There will be no service at this time. There will be an interment service in Concord in the spring of 2022.
