Gloria R. Lerner, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, May 27, 2016 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. The Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant, is entrusted with the arrangements. Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Mt. Mrs. Lerner, the former Gloria Ray Weinberger, was born January 4, 1927 in the Parish of Orleans, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Leopold Schlinger and Rachael G. (nee Myers) Weinberger. She graduated from high school in Louisiana and attended college there. On December 27, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY, Gloria was united in marriage to Dr. Ernest Nathaniel Lerner. Dr. Lerner died Wednesday, November 1, 2000 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Lerner was a longtime homemaker, raising her family as her husband's medical practice located the family to Otisville, NY, McKinney, Texas, Birmingham, AL, Tampa Bay, FL and finally to Mt. Pleasant. For a time, Mrs. Lerner worked at the former Brau Drug Store in Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Lerner was very adept in the art of needlepoint. She achieved the rank of Master Craftsman in Canvas Embroidery, bestowed by the Embroiderers Guild of America. She was the second person in Iowa to achieve this rank.
Those thankful for sharing in Gloria's life include her 3 children and their spouses: Marshall & Linda Lerner of Lewis Center, OH, Barbara Ray & Robert Williams of Colorado Springs, CO and Leslie G. & Janet kay Lerner of New London, IA; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Her parents, husband and a grandchild precede Gloria in death.
