Alberta Kitch Obituary

Alberta Kitch, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral service for Alberta Kitch will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at the First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Deborah J. Stowers will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Monday, Nov. 24 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday evening.

Mrs. Kitch, the former Frances Alberta Loper was born December 25, 1927 in Fairfield, IA. She was the daughter of Albert Earl and Frances marguerite (nee Magee) Loper. As a young child, she moved with her family to Mt. Pleasant. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1946. On October 13, 1949 in Mt. Pleasant, Alberta was united in marriage to James Robert Kitch by the Reverend O.T. Wilson. Mr. Kitch died Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.
After her high school graduation, Alberta worked as a telephone operator for the former Mt. Pleasant Telephone Company. She became a homemaker to raise her family. Partway through that time, she became the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Taft Plumbing and Heating, and remained there for 17 years.
Mrs. Kitch was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant and the United Methodist Women. She and her husband donated many hours working in the church's food tent at Midwest Old Threshers. When her children were growing up, she volunteered many hours and as Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader. She remained very active in attending all of her children's and grandchildren's activities. She participated in many activities with her husband. They built bluebird houses to have at their home and other places in the area. Her love of bluebirds extended into a collection of bluebird figurines she had gathered. She and her husband were active gardeners, as she kept an extensive photo collection of the flowers her husband raised. They used to go to dances and belongs to the Cotillion Club. In her spare time alone, Alberta enjoyed quilting, sewing and embroidery.
Those thankful for sharing in Alberta's life include 2 children and their spouses - Michael & Wanda Kitch of Carman, IL, and Debra & Gary Rodgers of Mt. Pleasant; 9 grandchildren - Laura Daniels, Jennifer Kitch, Kerry Truffant, Elizabeth Markle, Amanda Bertowski, Dei Axell, Jimmy Kitch, Doug Kitch and Renee VanZandt, and 13 great grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, a son - Harold Earl "Butch" Kitch and a half brother, Harry Emerson Riggs, precede Alberta in death.
