Therese B. Slobodnik, 54, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at her residence. A memorial funeral mass for Miss Slobodnik will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 20 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 607 South Jackson St., Mt. Pleasant. Father Joseph Phung will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 PM on Friday at St. Alphonsus Church. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM followed by a Scriptural Wake Service. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to Camp Courageous or St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Therese Beth Slobodnik was born August 9, 1959 in Council Bluffs, IA. She was the daughter of James Douglas and Marilyn Gay (nee Schneider) Slobodnik. She moved with her family to Jacksonville, IL and then to Mt. Pleasant. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1977 and from the American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines in 1983. For 18 years, Therese was employed in the Customer Service Department of the Meredith Publishing Company in Des Moines. She had also worked at Jerry's Restaurant, The Iris Restaurant, the Dream Drive-in, Brau Pharmacy and the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce. Therese was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. She enjoyed both participating and being a spectator of all sports, especially high school athletics, NFL, Olympics and NASCAR. Therese en's greatest joy came from her wonderful friends she met over the years and the love for all her family, especially spoiling all of her nieces and nephews and their children. Those thankful for sharing in Therese's life include her 6 siblings - Francis Slobodnik and his wife Cathy of Topeka, KS, Anne Russell and her husband David of Davenport, IA, Stephen Slobodnik and his wife Judy and Lisa Brooks her husband Rickie, all of Mt. Pleasant, and Mark and Christopher Slobodnik, both of Spring Grove, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Therese is preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Patricia Slobodnik and Catherine White.
