Samuel T. Bailey, 97, of Paducah, KY and formerly of Mobile, AL, Chicago, IL and Griswold, IA, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
A memorial funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 28 at the New Sweden Lutheran Chapel, rural Lockridge, IA. Pastor Kenneth Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant, which is assisting the family with the arrangements. Samuel Thomas Bailey was born May 8, 1916 on a farm southeast of Griswold. He was the son of Samuel T. and Clara R. (nee Wilfong) Bailey. He graduated from Griswold High School in 1934. Sam was united in marriage to Hope Victoria (nee Lillyblade) Bailey of the Four Corners area, rural Lockridge, IA. Mrs. Bailey died Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
Sam worked for the Shaeffer Pen Company in Ft. Madison, IA where he met his wife. For over 67 years, Sam was a member of the Pipe Fitter's Local 597 of Chicago, IL. He was retired from the union for 30 years.
Upon their retirement in 1986, Sam and Hope moved to Mobile, IL and spent their summers in Malden, IL to be near family. The couple moved to Paducah to live with their daughter, Debra Bailey about seven years ago.
Sam was a veteran of World War II, having served in the former United States Army Air Corps. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Those thankful for sharing in Sam's life include four daughters, Debra Bailey of Paducah, KY, Diane Petkunas and her husband Ron of Oswego, Il, Karen Nelson and her husband Fines of Dewey, AZ and Barbara Wilks of Coeur D'Alene, ID, two sons, Kevin Bailey and his wife Mary of Orland Park, IL and David Bailey of Paragould, AR; twenty-one grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His wife of over 55 years, Hope, his parents, two sons - Gary and Jack Bailey, four brothers - Orville, Harold, Sheldon and J.C. Bailey and two sisters, Garnet Watznaur and Gladys Mason precede Sam in death.
