Robert Charles "Bob" Guthrie, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, December 15, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Services are 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 19 at the Faith Christian Outreach Church, 1302 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant. Pastor Monte Knudsen will officiate. Burial will the in the Overman Cemetery, Atalissa, IA. The family will greet friends 1 hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be directed to www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com. Robert Charles "Bob" Guthrie was born October 23, 1938 in Ottumwa. He was the son of Leland and Mary Guthrie. On November 4, 1959, Bob married Virginia Dennison. Virginia died in 2002. On April 26, 2003 at the Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mt. Pleasant, Bob married Faith Holmes. Ont. October 28, 1955 in St. Louis, Mo, Bob entered the United States Marine Corps. He was a Field Artillery Battery Man, deployed to Vietnam for service. Bob was honorably discharged from the Marines as a Gunnery Sergeant on September 30, 1975 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, serving 20 years. Bob settled in the Atalissa, IA, area. He worked for West Liberty Foods and maintenance on the I-80 rest areas. Bob was also employed in the construction trade. After moving to Mt. Pleasant, Bob worked construction for his step son Ellsworth Cook III and for Rich Lanphier's rental property. Survivors include his wife, Faith, of Mt. Pleasant; 5 children - Robert Guthrie, Jr. of Alabama, Floyd Guthrie of Fruitland, IA, Patty (Jeff) Benton of Muscatine, IA, Donna (Bob) Woods of Cedar Point, IL and Susie Guthrie of New Boston, IL; 4 step children - Julie Garrison of Fairfield, IA, Ron Bird of Stockport, IA, Tammy Martinez of Marble Rock, IA, and Ellsworth Cook III of Fairfield; an adopted daughter, Lawonna Holman of Mt. Pleasant; a brother - Roland Guthrie of Davenport, IA; a sister - Dixie Jean of Eddyville, IA; 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren and an adopted granddaughter. His parents, first wife, 1 brother - Thomas Lee Guthrie and 2 sisters - Frankie and Donna Jean, precede in death.
