Obituary

Richard L. Stookesberry, 72, of Ft. Madison, died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A private family service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant, which is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.kimzeyfh.com. Richard Lee Stookesberry was born September 30, 1939 in Bloomfield, IA. He was the son of William Dean and Nola (Lunsford) Stookesberry. In 1958, he was united in marriage to Sandra Irene Ford. The couple later divorced. Richard drove a route delivery truck for Colonial Bread when he began his working career. For many years, he was an union iron worker with the Local 577 of Burlington. He had served in the Iowa National Guard with the unit in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge, both in Ft. Madison. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Spring Lake Country Club. Those thankful for sharing in Richard's life include 2 sons and their wives, Tim & Deb Stookesberry of Mt. Pleasant and Kurt and Tammy Stookesberry of Arlington, TX; 2 daughters - Kim Bennett of Marietta, GA and Shelly Myers of Dallas, GA; a brother and his wife Stand and Donna Stookesberry of Granbury, TX; 2 sisters and their husbands, Sharon & Joe Kurka of Fairfield, IA, and Deanna & Gordon Jones of Waco, TX. His parents and 2 sisters, Anita York and Janeanne Miller precede Richard in death.
