Obituary

Orville T. Morris, 96, of Fairfield, and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield. A funeral service for Orville Morris will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 10 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mt. Pleasant. Pastor Jeffrey A. McPheron of the Trenton United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, IA, with graveside military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 8:00 PM on Friday at the Kimzey Funeral Home. There will be no family visitation. Online condolences may be sent to www.KimzeyFH.com Orville Thompson Morris was born February 10, 1916 on the family farm, rural Hillsboro, Henry County, IA. He was the son of Rex S. and Mary (Thompson) Morris. He attended grade school in Hillsboro and later moved with his family to Urbana, IA where he attended Urbana High School. On June 12, 1953, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA, Orville was united in marriage to F. Ailene Huber. Mrs. Morris died December 25, 1985. After his education, Orville joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. (CCC) in Marion, IA. Mr. Morris gave service to his country. He was inducted into the United States Army on March 31, 1941 at Ft. Des Moines. He served as a truck driver for Provost Sections 2571st Service Unit of the 43rd Engineers Battalion. He was stations in the East Indies, Papuan and New Guinea. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class on September 16, 1945 at the Jefferson Barracks, Missouri Separation Center. Following his service in the Army, Mr. Morris drove truck for a brief time. He then joined the Highway Department of Henry County, where he was a 30 year employee of. He worked in the county quarry drilling for blasting and driving a rock delivery truck. In the summer, he mowed for the county. Orville was a member of the American Legion Robert Tribby Post #58 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2561, both of Mt. Pleasant. In his spare time, Orville loved to go camping and fishing with his family, his brother and his brother's family. Those thankful for sharing in Orville's life include a son and his wife, Scott S. and Angie Morris of Fairfield; a daughter, Jill Sammons of Fairfield; a sister, Mrs. Patricia A. Rose of West Burlington, IA; 9 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. His parents, wife and a brother, Virgil Morris, precede Orville in death. Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Oakland Mills Community Church.
