Obituary

Norma Jean Hill, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, November 08, 2016 at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant. A funeral service for Norma Hill will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 12 at the Faith Lutheran Church, 910 E. Mapleleaf Dr., Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Michael R. Scudder will officiate. Burial will be in the Burge Cemetery, New London. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Fri., Nov. 11 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday evening. Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Faith Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be directed to www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com Ms. Hill, the former Norma Jean Weigert, was born September 26, 1930 in Mt. Pleasant. She was the daughter of Raymond Orville "Sam" and Jessie (Jennings) Weigert. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1948. In 1950, Norma was united in marriage to Stanley Hill. The couple later divorced. From 1954 until her retirement in 1991, Norma was an aide and pharmaceutical technician at the Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Institute. She was noted from the care and compassion she extended to her patients. Norma was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary Posts of Mt. Pleasant. Norma belonged to the Women's International Bowling Congress (WIBC). She bowled in many tournaments across the nation. She had previously been a member of the Women of the Moose of Mt. Pleasant. In her spare time, Norma enjoyed needlepoint, tending to her houseplants and cheering for the Hawkeye Football Team. Norma had a gifted memory, and was uncanny in her ability to remember people, names, dates and how many of the people were related. Those thankful for sharing in Norma's life include her 6 children - Bev Lundgren & her husband Dave of New London, Pam Parcel & her husband Reggie of Mt. Pleasant, Tom Hill & his wife Sue of Iowa City, Gerald Hill of Iowa City, Jim Hill & his wife Beth of Boerne, TX and Dave Hill & his wife Susan of Omaha, NE; a brother, Darrell "Ed" Weigert and his wife Sue of Asbury, IA; 2 sisters, Virginia Trueblood of Wilmore KY and Jane Bitting & her husband David of New London; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Her parents and 1 great granddaughter, Kaitlin Taylor precede Norma in death. Norma's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and family at Pleasant Manor Care Center for the love, attention and care their showed for Norma during her stay.
