Obituary

Michael C. Moore, 66, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, July 28, 2014 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant. A memorial visitation will be held from 3-5 PM on Sunday August 3, 2014 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mt. Pleasant. There will be no formal funeral service. Michael Christopher Moore was born June 1, 1948 in Stamford, Connecticut. He was the son of Philip D. and Bonnie Jean (nee English) Moore. He was raised in Greenwich, Connecticut and graduated from Greenwich High School in 1966. He relocated to Mt. Pleasant to continue his education at Iowa Wesleyan College. In 1971, Michael was conferred with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater Arts and English from Iowa Wesleyan. On December 21, 1980 at the home of Dr. Jerry Richards (former Vice-President of Academic Affairs at Iowa Wesleyan) in Mt. Pleasant, Michael was united in marriage to Terry Jean Jeffers. Michael began his working career at Heatilator Industries in Mt. Pleasant. For 20 years, he was an engineer and buyer analyst for the former Motorola Corporation in Mt. Pleasant. Michael left Motorola and pursued his dream of being a professional lighting technician. It was at Iowa Wesleyan that he starting lighting designs and techniques. His loved and passion for lighting carried through until his death. He was a lighting contractor to Sound Concepts in Cedar Rapids. He designed lighting schemes and concepts for an untold number of plays, musicals and music concerts. He did lighting concepts for the Five Seasons Center and Freedom Center in Cedar Rapids, the Old Creamery Theater, and the Heatilator Center for the Performing Arts and the Iowa Wesleyan College Chapel, both in Mt. Pleasant. Michael loved to read. He held a very keen interest in politics and world news. Michael held a deep fondness for traveling. HE enjoyed traveling to Jamaica, St. Simons Island and Cumberland Nation. Those thankful for sharing in Michael's life include his wife Terry of Mt. Pleasant; 2 sons - Philip C. Moore of Rome and his friends Erin Thurman and Walter P. Moore and his wife Ashley of Cedar Rapids, IA; a sister - Molly Moore McCormick of Jupiter, FL, his step mother - Helen Devenney Moore of St Simons Island, GA, his "grandpuppies" and most especially, his two pet cats, Harvey and Monster. Michael is preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Brian McCormick.
