Mary Ellen (Mrs. Colon J.) Tindill, 99, of Fowler, Indiana and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Wednesday, April 03, 2013 at the Green Hill Manor in Fowler.
A funeral service for Mrs. Tindill will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 10 at the Finley Chapel United Methodist Church, 1503 150th Street, rural Wayland, Iowa. The Reverend Betsey Sue Neipert, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Finley Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call to greet the family from 4-6 PM on Tuesday, April 9 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant, and from 10AM to 11 AM on Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Tindill, the former Mary Ellen Kirchner, was born November 1, 1913 in Cosby, Anderson County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Charles William and Louise Christina (nee Krull) Kirchner. She received her education in St. Edward, Nebraska. One April 16, 1935 in St. Edward, Mary Ellen was united in marriage to Colon J. Tindill. The couple made their home in Nebraska briefly until moving to Iowa in 1937. Mr. Tindill died December 27, 1968. Mrs. Tindill moved to Fowler in 2004.
In 1956, Mary Ellen became a resident treatment technician at the Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Institute. She remained there for 20 years, retiring in 1976. She was an active member of the Finley Chapel United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting.
Those thankful for sharing in Mary Ellen's life include a daughter and her husband, Vivian and Arthur "Bud" Cook of Fowler, IN; a son and his wife, Keith and Jean Tindill of Colorado Springs, CO; 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, 2 daughters - Marilyn Pendell and Doris Gaylor, 3 brothers - Glen, Frank & John Kirchner, 3 sister - Alta Estes, Bessi Pierrie and Lola Fales, 2 sons-in-law, - Paul Pendell and James Gaylor and a great grandson, Jeffrey Allen, precede Mary Ellen in death.
