Mary Brombaugh, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant.
There will be no funeral service or visitation. Interment will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery at a later date. The Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Mrs. Brombaugh, the former Mary L. Wilson, was born May 5, 1925 in Lake County, Indiana, the daughter of Harry J. and Nancy (Morehouse) Wilson. She graduated from Kouts High School in 1942. She then attended the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing under the Army Cadet Program, graduating in 1944. On May 2, 1948 in Milton, IA, Mary was united in marriage to Charles D. Brombaugh of Milton.
Mary began her nursing career at the University of Iowa Hospital. The couple moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1955 where she continued her nursing career at the Henry County Health Center. She served as a nurse in general duty, private duty, supervisory, obstetrics and nursery divisions. Mary was also the first hemodialysis nurse at HCHC, the first director of nursing at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield, the director at the (then) Mapleleaf Care Center and as a Des Moines County Home Health Nurse out of Burlington.
Mary loved to quilt, do cross stitch and cook. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant where she often helped in the kitchen. She was a member of the Order of the Easter Star New London Chapter #440 and the Retired Nurses Association.
Mary is survived by her husband, Charles; four daughters - Nancy Gruwell of Phoenix, AZ, Sandra Renberg of Anthem, AZ, Carol Brombaugh of Antioch, CA and Janet Brombaugh of Phoenix, AZ; 6 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a brother-in-law and his wife, Robert and Jean Brombaugh of Mt. Pleasant.
Her parents, four sisters and a brother precede her in death.
