Kirk D. Gillis, 43, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, June 18, 2012 at his residence. A graveside memorial funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 22 at the Forest Home Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant, which is assisting the family with the arrangements. Kirk Duane Gillis was born September 28, 1968 in Mt. Pleasant. He was the son of Jack Duane and Brenda Joyce (McClary) Gillis. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1987. Mr. Gillis was a route carrier for the Mt. Pleasant News for 15 years. He was known for his dedication and attention to detail on his route. Those traits were also evident in his organizational skills at home and in his hobbies, which included taking long walks and watching all sports on TV, most especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He also did enjoy the Dukes of Hazard on TV as well. Those thankful for sharing in Kirk's life include his father of Mt. Pleasant and two uncles, Edward William Gillis of Burlington, IA and Ray McClary of Dupo, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his mother, who passed away in 1998. Memorials may be directed to the family.
