Obituary

Kay Jay, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. New London Chapter #440 of the O.E.S. will conduct the service. The funeral service for Kay Jay will immediately follow with Pastor Bryan Katchay of the Congregational Church of Mt. Pleasant officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. There will be no visitation. Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Congregational Church or the Pleasant Manor Activity Department. Online condolences may be directed to www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com. Katherine Fidella Jay was born June 21, 1921 in Argus, Indiana. She was the daughter of the Rev. Henry Russell and Rose Bishop (nee Good) Jay. She moved with her family to other communities as her father was called to serve Congregational Churches in those communities. She graduated from Abington (Illinois) High School in 1939. She later attended Iowa Wesleyan College. For 9 years, Kay worked in the Executive Offices of the P.E.O. Sisterhood when they were located in Mt. Pleasant. For 27 years, Kay was a secretary in the Academic Dean's Office of Iowa Wesleyan College. Kay was a member of the Congregational Church in Mt. Pleasant, and served on every board of the church. She served 5 years as the church clerk. Kay had been a Past Worthy Matron of the former Bethlehem Chapter #38 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had served in nearly every other office of the chapter as well. Following the closing of Bethlehem Chapter, Kay transferred her membership to the New London Chapter #440 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Kay was also a member and Past President of the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter Original A of Mt. Pleasant. Those thankful for sharing in Kay's life include 14 nieces and nephews and their spouses and numerous, great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. Kay is also survived by her special friend who looked after Kay in her later years, Peggy Hays and her husband Clark of Mt. Pleasant. Her parents, 2 brothers - H. Russell Jay and Vernon B. Jay, 3 sisters - Dorotha Leibreich, Emily Engert and Margaret Holben, 1 nephew and her companion cat Puddin precede Kay in death.
