Jimmy Leroy Bryan, 58, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City, IA. A funeral service for Mr. Bryan will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 28 at the First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Main Street, Mount Pleasant. Pastor Luann Benge will officiate. Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, IA, with military honors conducted at the graveside by the Iowa Military Funeral Honors and the Henry County Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2-8 PM on Thursday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday evening. He was the son of Bobby Gene and Betty Lou (Canady) Bryan. On May 16, 2016 in Mt. Pleasant, Jimmy was united in marriage to Melissa Kay Harper. Jimmy was a career military man. He served in the United States Army for many years, including a tour in Desert Storm. He transferred from the Army to the Army National Guard, from which he was honorably discharged. For a few years, Jimmy also did landscaping on the side. Mr. Bryan attended the First United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the American Legion Robert Tribby Post #58 of Mt. Pleasant. Jimmy loved to be with people with whom he could share a joke or two. Those thankful for sharing in Jimmy's life include his wife, Melissa, of Mount Pleasant; 3 children - Steven Bryan and his wife Amanda of Bowie, TX, Sara Bryan of Mt. Pleasant and an infant daughter, Ashley Marie Rose Bryan at home in Mt. Pleasant; a brother and his wife, Bobby and Lynette Bryan of Denton, TX, and 2 grandchildren - Raven Dronette Bryan & Skylor Andrew Bryan. Jimmy's parents precede him in death.
