Obituary

H. Lloyd Blackmon, 66, of Mt. Pleasant, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 20, 2021 in the Henry County Health Center Emergency Room in Mt. Pleasant.

The funeral service for Mr. Blackmon will be 10:30 AM on Friday, February 26 at the Wellspring Evangelical Free Church, 2501 S. Grand Ave., Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Tye Male will officiate. Burial will be at 2 PM at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL, with graveside military rites conducted by the Iowa Military Funeral Honors Detail and the Vietnam Veterans #299 of Rock Island. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 8 PM on Thursday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 5-7 PM. Standard COVID-19 protocols are asked to be followed.

The funeral service will be livestreamed on the Kimzey Funeral Home Facebook page and available for viewing later on the Kimzey Funeral Home website. Online condolences may be left at www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Wellspring Evangelical Free Church or the Iowa Public Broadcasting System (IPBS).

Hunter Lloyd Blackmon was born July 31, 1954 in Jackson Mississippi. He was the son of Wilmer Lloyd and Eva Nell (Harper) Blackmon. He graduated from Winfield High School in Jackson in 1972 and the University of Mississippi (Ole' Miss) in 1976. While at Ole' Miss, he met his future wife. On July 16, 1977 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Jackson, Lloyd was united in marriage to Charlene Elizabeth Kuespert.

Lloyd made his career in the US Army, first in Armor and later in Ordinance. While at the University of Mississippi, Lloyd was in the ROTC. He entered the Army following his graduation. He was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX; Ft. Knox, KY and Illshiem Army Base in Germany. He then took charge of the ROTC at the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO. He then was stationed at the Rock Island Arsenal, the US Army Base in Erlangen, Germany and finally at Ft. Sill, OK. He retired with the rank of Major. After his army career, Lloyd worked in Human Resource Management for various companies.

Lloyd was a member of Wellspring Evangelical Free Church. He enjoyed ice fishing, golfing and hunting. He loved to read and was a history buff. He loved to talk about tanks with Dr. Kent Metcalf. Lloyd very much enjoyed Friday breakfast with his breakfast buddy, Harold Collett.

Those thankful for sharing in Lloyd's life include his wife Charlene; 3 sons, Christopher Blackmon of Luxembourg, Thomas (Jen) Blackmon of Green Cove Springs, FL and Michael (Min) Blackmon of Brooklyn, NY; a sister, Candy Prentice of Jackson, MS and 2 grandsons, David and John Blackmon.

His parents precede in death.
