Obituary

Esta Mae Ferguson, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Donnellson Health Center in Donnellson. A funeral service for Esta Ferguson will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 24 at the Rome Baptist Church, Rome, IA. Pastor Guy Sammons will officiate. Burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery, rural Rome. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Friday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mt .Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday evening. Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Rome Baptist Church. Online condolences may be directed to www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com Mrs. Ferguson, the form Esta Mae Sammons, was born December 31, 1937 in Mt. Pleasant. She was the daughter of Clarence and Irma (Lee) Sammons. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1956, On June 4, 1956 in Kahoka, MO, Esta was united in marriage to Walter Junior Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson died December 23, 2001 at Mapleleaf Care Center in Mt. Pleasant. Esta worked at Metromail, McIntyres, the Hi-Hat Café and Emerson Electric, all in Mt. Pleasant. She then became the Manager of the former Newsland in Mt. Pleasant. Esta then went on to become the Assistant Manager of the Mt. Pleasant A&W Restaurant, and remained there when the restaurant became Buns & Company. Esta then went to work for the former Motorola Corp. in Mt. Pleasant, from which she retired in 2001. During her working career and even after retirement, Esta was an in-home caregiver for several Mt. Pleasant residents. Esta loved playing card games and dominoes with relatives and friends. She had a gifted knack and loved to sew sequins on cloth calendars. She had a keen eye and ability to solve and assemble jigsaw puzzles. Esta enjoyed feeding cardinals and other wild birds and squirrels. She always made time for her grandchildren, flowers and gardens. She had also served on the Board of Directors for the White Oak Cemetery. Those thankful for sharing in Esta's life include 5 children: Joey Ferguson and his wife Debra of Mt. Pleasant, Larry Ferguson and his wife Jennifer of Dallas, GA, Sonny Ferguson of Mt. Pleasant, Rusty Ferguson and his wife Sheryl of Stillwater, MN and April Perron and her husband Kevin of Mt. Pleasant; 3 step children: Everett Ferguson and his wife Susie of Davenport, IA, Judy McGriff and her husband Bruce of Naperville, IL and Linda Dawdy of Salt Lake City, UT; a brother - Guy Sammons and his wife Diane of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Rosie Wiggins of Mt. Pleasant; 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, and 4 brothers - Darrell, Don, Henry and Dennis Sammons precede Esta in death.
