Donald E. Kiesey, 89, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Washington, died Monday, January 28, 2013 at Park Place Elder Living in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral service for Donald Kiesey will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, February 2 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. Pastor Bryan Katchay of the Congregational and Lincoln Street Baptist Churches of Mt. Pleasant will officiate. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with graveside military honors conducted by the American Legion Leon Beatty Post #29 of Washington. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 9 AM to 11:30 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Friends are invited to join the family for a lunch at 11:30 at the Mt. Pleasant Masonic Temple, 206 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant.

Donald Ernest Kiesey was born November 10, 1923 in Washington, Iowa. He was the son of Walter Lewis and Ernestine (Vanatta) Kiesey. He attended Washington High School where he was involved in sports. He graduated in 1941. On September 15, 1946 at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington, Don was united in marriage to Mary Louise Bean. Mrs. Kiesey died February 2, 1990 at Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Don worked briefly at a dry cleaning establishment after his graduation. Don was called to serve his country during WW II. He entered the former Army Air Corps on January 15, 1943 at Camp Dodge, Iowa. Don became a power turret and gunsight mechanic and bomb loader with the 463rd Bomb Group of the 774th Bomber Squadron. He was involved in action in Italy and France. He was awarded bronze stars and the Good Conduct Medal for the campaigns to which he was sent. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on November 5, 1945 at Jefferson Barracks, MO.
Don returned to Washington where he worked for the Scott Furniture Store and then Marshall Furniture. In 1964, Don moved to Mt. Pleasant where he and other investors opened the Home Furniture Store. In 1974, Don acquired sole ownership of the store. He sold the store to his son Ed in 1984.
Mr. Kiesey was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant. In Washington, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and taught swimming at the YMCA. Don also did picture framing as a business hobby out of his home.
Those thankful for sharing in Don's life include 2 sons - Ed Kiesey and his wife Sheila of Mt. Pleasant and Kent Kiesey and his partner Sam Lisuzzo of Chicago, IL; a daughter - Dianna Penrod and her husband Mike of Cedar Rapids, IA; a brother - Robert Kiesey and his wife Margy of Davenport, IA; 5 grandchildren - Jason (Rick Erickson) Kiesey, Joshua (Amber) Kiesey, Joel (Kristin Knicely) Kiesey, Jami Lyn (Sam) Tennant and Marci (John) Mohr; 6 great grandchildren - Spencer Feikert, Zachary Feikert, Madison Mohr, Jacob Mohr, Caleb Mohr and Klara Kiesey, 1 great great granddaughter - Ianna Feikert and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, a sister, Laurine Owens and a son-in-law, Jerry Houlton precede Don in death
