Delbert D. Parker, 91, of rural Wayland, IA, died Friday, August 17, 2012 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
A funeral service for Delbert Parker will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 20 at the Forest Home Cemetery Chapel. The Reverend Herbert G. Shafer will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-9 PM Sunday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. Delbert Dale Parker was born January 30, 1921 in Salem, Iowa. He was the son of Cyrus Carl and Lola C. (Logan) Parker. He attended rural country schools in the Salem area. On August 9, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri, Delbert was united in marriage to Lois Edna Welch. Mrs. Parker died Thursday, October 3, 2002 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
In his younger years, Delbert drove a gravel truck and also helped construct the first Highway 34. He also ran a refuse collection route in Mt. Pleasant. For a few years, Delbert farmed a farm northeast of Mt. Pleasant. In 1948, Delbert settled on a farm west of Trenton and the Green Mound areas, where he resided until his death. He was known as a tireless and industrious worker who enjoyed all the aspects of farming. When Delbert did take a little time off, he enjoyed hunting.
Those thankful for sharing in Delbert's life include 2 sons - Gerald Parker and his special friend Shirley Neff of Burlington, and Dale & Jessie Parker of LaFayette, GA; 4 grandchildren - Dallas Parker, Dannell Morris, Greg Parker and Valerie Parker; 5 great grandchildren - Dakoda, Dalton & Daryn Parker and Jacob and Destiny Morris; 3 great-great grandchildren - Daryl, Deegan and Aubry Parker.
In addition to his parents and wife, a daughter in infancy, Geraldine Mae Parker, 3 brothers - Everett, Ellsworth and Russell Parker and 1 grandson - Darrell Parker precede Delbert in death.
