Obituary

David P. Timmerman, 69, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, January 02, 2013 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant. A funeral service for Dave Timmerman will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 5 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. Chaplain Jim Luder of HCI Care Services will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery with graveside military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home. The family will be present to receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday evening. Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Midwest Old Threshers Drive-A-Tractor program which Dave began. Online condolences may be sent to kimzeyfuneralhome.com David Paul Timmerman was born January 4, 1943 in Mt. Pleasant. He was the son of Paul Otto and Alice Ernestine (McCabe) Timmerman. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1961, and attended college at Southeastern Community College and Iowa Wesleyan College. On May 8, 1986 at Saunders Park in Mt. Pleasant, Dave was united in marriage to Karen Jean Brown Proenneke. Dave began his working career on the proving grounds of the JI Case Company in Burlington. He had his own earth-moving business, was a plumber and worked for Bill Sater's Blacksmith Shop in Mt. Pleasant. In 1964, Dave joined the Iowa National Guard which led to a long career in the guard. In 1972, Dave became a mechanic for the Iowa National Guard 224th OMS12 in Fairfield. He retired from the National Guard at the end of January 2003 after 39 years of Military Service and 31+ years of Technician Service. With his retirement, he was honorably discharged from the service as a Staff Sergeant. Dave held a long tenure of service to the Midwest Old Threshers. From 1978 to 2004, he served on the Board of Directors of Midwest Old Threshers and was a past president of the board. He was an original incorporator and past president of the Midwest Old Threshers Foundation. In 2000, Dave founded the Midwest Old Threshers Drive-A-Tractor Program. During the Old Threshers Reunions, Dave operated the Check Wire Planting Demonstration and the Wire Tie Hay Press. He was a founder with the Big Creek Tractor Club, the Poppin' Johnnys Club and the Wayland Tractor Club. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant. Those thankful for sharing in Dave's life include his wife Karen of Mt. Pleasant; 2 sons and their wives, Jon & Tammy Proenneke of Ottumwa and Joel & Jeanette Proenneke of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Jina Schneider of Lewiston, Idaho; a sister and her husband, Janet Sue & Keith Brookhart of Muscatine; 4 grandchildren - Sara & T.J. Schneider and J.R. and Joseph Proenneke; 1 niece - Lora Rooker and 2 nephews - Eric and Ryan Brookhart. His parents preceded him in death.
