David A. Taylor, 58, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Iowa City and Treynor, IA, died unexpectedly Friday, June 7, 2013 in the Emergency Room of the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral service for Dave Taylor will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 12 at the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church in Swedesburg. The Reverend Mark Youngquist, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Treynor, IA. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Tuesday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday evening.

David Allan Taylor was born December 19, 1954 in Council Bluffs, IA. He was the son of Virgil Boyd and Helen Elaine (Mackland) Taylor. Dave grew up in Treynor, IA and graduated from Treynor High School in 1972. On July 28, 1990 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Treynor, Dave was united in marriage to Nancy Claire Tipton.
Dave was conferred with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He worked for the Iowa Juvenile Home in Toledo, IA as a counselor. During that time, Dave completed his Master's Degree in Social Work at the University of Iowa. Social work was Dave's vocation and avocation. He accepted a position with the Area Education Agency 16, first out of the Burlington office and later with the Mt. Pleasant office. He was a social worker for the agency, assisting families and individuals with all the programs the agency offered. He was with the agency for over 20 years until he retired because of health concerns.
Dave was a member of the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church and the National Association of Social Workers. In his spare time, Dave loved trains of all kinds. He had train books and ornaments, Thomas the Tank Engine memorabilia as well as model trains. Dave loved to read, but was especially fond of comic books. Being a U of I grad, he was a huge supporter of Hawkeye Football and many other things Hawkeye. He enjoyed playing with the dogs at home as well.
Those thankful for sharing in Dave's life include his wife, Nancy of Mt. Pleasant, 2 children, Hannah Taylor and Joe Taylor, both of Mt. Pleasant; his mother, Helen of Treynor; 2 brothers and their wives, Michael & Kay Taylor and William & Becky Taylor, all of Council Bluffs; 2 sisters - Patricia Taylor and her husband Richard Martin of Omaha, NE and Pamela Taylor of Council Bluffs, several nieces and nephews and his puppy Pip.
His father precedes him in death.
