Obituary

Daryl E. McCulley, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, August 15, 2021 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Per Daryl's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation rites have been entrusted to the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant.

Daryl Edwin McCulley was born November 28, 1935 in Grandview, IA, the son of Hugh William and Elizabeth (Grouwinkel) McCulley. He attended grade school at West Pleasant Lawn School (now on display in the North Village of Midwest Old Threshers) and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1954. Daryl served in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis and was honorably discharged in 1962. He graduated from the Burlington School of Business in 1963. On June 5, 1966 in the Aldersgate Chapel of the First Methodist Church of Burlington, Daryl was united in marriage to Carol M. Jones.

Daryl worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (IAAP) in Middletown for about 11 years. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1999 after 25 years of service as a Window Clerk for the Mt. Pleasant Post Office.

Daryl loved to garden and tended to a collection of exotic animals which schoolchildren visited on field trips.

Those thankful for sharing in Daryl's life include his wife of 55 years, Carol of Mt. Pleasant; 2 sons – Daryn McCulley and his wife Kristi of Centennial, CO and Daniel McCulley of North Liberty, IA; a sister Janet Proctor and her husband Don of Millis, MA, several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Zoey.

His parents and a brother, Jaryl "Gus" McCulley precede Daryl in death.
