Betty J. Jennings, 90, of New London, and formerly of Wayland and Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at her residence. A graveside memorial funeral service for Betty Jennings will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, September 19 at the Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Gloria Friedrich, Pastor, First Augustana Lutheran Church, Lockridge, IA, will officiate. Friends may call to sign the register from 9 AM to 4 PM on Friday, Sept. 18 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon to 1:15 PM on Saturday at the funeral home. Betty Jane Jennings was born April 14, 1925 in Wayland, Iowa. She was the daughter of Warren Reese and Ruth Elvira (Rich) Allen. She attended school in Wayland. The family moved to Mt. Pleasant where Betty graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1945. For over 30 years, Betty was a Resident Treatment Worker and Supervisor at the Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Institute, retiring in 1990. She was a member of First Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge. Betty was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Kansas City Royals, the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed gardening, knitting and most especially card playing, as she was a very keen player of numerous card games. Those thankful for sharing in Betty's life include her 4 children - Michael A. Jennings and his wife Helen of Clinton, IA, Susan K. Sinclair of Mt. Pleasant, Richard D. Jennings and his wife Diane of West Point, IA and Joan E. Hummell of Cocoa, FL; 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Her parents, a sister - Ardith Arthur and her companion of over 40 years, Bill Baker (who died Sunday, August 30, 2009), precede Betty in death. The family extends a special thank you to the Hospice Program of HCI Care Services.
