Obituary

John D. "Baby John" Booton, 58, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, May 09, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from injuries suffered in a motor scooter accident northeast of Rome, IA. A funeral service for Baby John will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 14 at the First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant. Pastor Larry Shipley will officiate. Burial will be in the Thompson Cemetery, southwest of Bonaparte, IA. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Monday, May 13 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 PM Monday evening. Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Online condolences may be sent to www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com. Johnny DuWayne Booton was born June 14, 1954 in Mt. Pleasant. He was the son of John Don and Delores Jean (Shafer) Booton. For several years, he was raised by his aunt Vera Shafer. He graduated from high school in Kirkland, Washington. "Baby John", as he was known, began his working career driving a taxi cab for his aunt Vera Shafer's taxi company in Mt. Pleasant. For most of his life, Baby John was the mechanic and director of transportation for the Mt. Pleasant Community School District. Baby John had a tireless work ethic at the bus barn. He possessed an uncanny memory of the mileage, mechanical workings and service record of each of the buses. He retired from the school district in 2003. Baby John will be remembered as someone who loved helping people in all of their life's circumstances. He had been a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge of Mt. Pleasant, a social member of the Mt. Pleasant Veterans Club, the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department and a bowling team at the Iris Lanes in Mt. Pleasant. Baby John also loved to go fishing. Those privileged for being a part of Baby John's life include his mother Delores of Mt. Pleasant; 2 brothers, Bob "Boo" Booton of Mt. Pleasant and Tom Booton of Lockridge; 1 nephew, Takoda Booton of Lockridge and a host of friends and relatives including his special friends Gary and Cleda Thomas of Mt. Pleasant. His father, grandparents, a sister in infancy, Kathy Booton and his aunt Vera Shafer precede Baby John in death.
