Alison L. Smith Black, 53, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Omaha and Council Bluffs, died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Henry County Health Center Emergency Room.
A memorial funeral service for Alison Smith Black will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 1 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. Pastor Andy Avery will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
Alison Lynn Smith Black was born September 9, 1962 in Mt. Pleasant. She was the daughter of Melvin E. and Bessie B. (Zachmeyer) Smith. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1981. She attended Iowa State University and Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs.
Alison was a longtime employee in the food service and restaurant industry, primarily as a waitress. Most recently, she was a cook at the Mt. Pleasant Community High School. She resided for many years raising her family in the Council Bluffs and Omaha Nebraska area. She moved to Mexico and resided there for 2 years before returning to Mt. Pleasant to care for her mother.
Alison was very artistically gifted. She loved to cross-stitch. Alison attended the Faith Christian Outreach Church.
Those thankful for sharing in Alison's life include her 5 children: Lindsay Bockert and special friend John Ebert of Omaha, NE, Nichole Smelser and her husband Dustin of Elk Horn, NE, Bryan Black of Omaha, and Miguel Lagunes-Black and Andrea Lagunas-Smith, both at home in Mt. Pleasant; a sister and her husband, Betty and Irvin Jerrel of Mt. Pleasant; 2 brothers: Duane H. Smith and his wife Laura of Ft. Collins, CO and Everett M. Smith of Mt. Pleasant, and 8 grandchildren.
Her parents and a sister, Charlotte Kay Hodson, precede Alison in death.
