Ruth Douglas Obituary

Ruth M. (Mrs. Willard) Douglas, 99, of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral mass for Mrs. Douglas will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 17 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 607 South Jackson St., Mt. Pleasant. Father Joseph Phung will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Wednesday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mt. Pleasant. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. The family will greet friends following the rosary.
Mrs. Douglas, the former Ruth Marguerite Kerker, was born February 23, 1917 in rural Mt. Union, IA. She was the daughter of Edward Williams and Frances Lenora (Rathbun) Kerker. Ruth graduated from Pleasant Lawn High School in 1934. On April 17, 1942 at the St. Alphonsus Rectory in Mt. Pleasant, Ruth was united in marriage to Willard Hinchman Douglas. Mr. Douglas died December 15, 1987 in Mt. Pleasant.
Ruth was a longtime sales clerk. She worked in the Mt. Pleasant stores of Sears, Roebuck & Co., the Brown,-Lynch-Scott Hardware Store, J.C. Penney's and Children's Fashion Time.
Mrs. Douglas was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the church's Altar & Rosary Society. She belonged to Daughters of Charity of the church. Ruth was a member of the Women of the Moose, and belonged to the College of Regeants and the Academy of Friendship of the Women of the Moose. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary #2561 of Mt. Pleasant. Ruth held a passion for playing bridge, and belonged to several bridge clubs, playing bridge until just recently. She loved to read and complete crossword puzzles. Ruth had a great love of dancing, and was known to dance a few steps even into her later years. She treasured her grandchildren, and loved spending time with them and their children.
Those thankful for sharing in Ruth's life include a son and his wife, John E. "Jack" & Connie Douglas of Bremerton, WA; a daughter and her husband, Sherrie & Lou Pfeiffer of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren - Karrie (Brian) Laskay, Scott (Deanna) Pfeiffer, Nick Pfeiffer, Heath Pfeiffer, David Wiseman, Dawn (Jeff) Mentzer, Doug (Ellen) Wiseman, DeLynn (Scott) Frantz, Carissa (Danny) Sears and Marie (Gerard) Salame and 20 great grandchildren. She was expecting the birth of first great-great grandchild at the time of her death.
Her parents, husband, a daughter and her husband, Kathy & Roy Wiseman, 2 brothers - Francis & Glen Kerker, 2 sisters - Helen Poltis and Pearl Moul and a grandson - John E. "Jack" Douglas, Jr. precede Ruth in death.
