Mrs. Messer, the former Marcelline Joy Dixon, was born March 2, 1922 in Kirksville, MO. She was the daughter of Gurn and Macil (Schmitz) Dixon. She moved with her family as a young girl to Omaha, NE. At 14 years of age, following the death of her father during the Great Depression, she made her home with family members Vera & Arthur Peterson near Mt. Pleasant. Marcelline attended rural country school. She met with her soon-to-be husband, but moved back to live in Omaha briefly before returning to Mt. Pleasant. On Jun 10, 1941 at the Peterson's farm, rural Mt. Pleasant, Marcelline was united in marriage to Richard LeRoy White. Mr. White died August 9, 1968 in Mt. Pleasant. On February 14, 1970 in Nashville, TN, Marcelline was united in marriage to Robert Messer. Mr. Messer died August 17, 1989 in Mt. Pleasant.

Pleasant. She then became a Nurse's Aide at the Henry County Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. For several years following, Marcelline was a cook at the Mt. Pleasant Community High School. She often prepared meals there and then traveled to one of the elementary school sites to serve. She retired from the school in the early 1990's.
During her time on the farm, Marcelline was a member of the Rome Baptist Church and the women of the church. She also belonged to and loved hosting her neighbors at coffees. After moving into town in 1991, Marcelline was member of the First Baptist Church, the American Baptist Women and circles of the church. Again, Marcelline loved to coffee with her friends on Green Street. In her spare time, Marcelline was very gifted in her hobbies of sewing, cooking, canning, baking and decorating. She also loved feeding and watching the birds outside her windows.
