Edward A. "Ed" Kiesey, 67, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Thursday, March 26, 2015 in Golden, CO, while visiting family.
A memorial funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Faith Lutheran Church, 910 East Mapleleaf Drive, Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Michael R. Scudder, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.Friends may call from 12 Noon to 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 16th at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mt. Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday evening.
Edward Allen "Ed" Kiesey was born January 11, 1948 in Washington, IA. He was the son of Donald Ernest and Mary Louise (nee Bean) Kiesey. He grew up in Washington until his high school days. He moved with his family to Mt. Pleasant when his father established Home Furniture in Mt. Pleasant. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1966. Ed then entered the University of Iowa in Iowa City where in 1971 he graduated with a BA degree in Business and Psychology.
In 1971, Ed married Linda Boyd. Ed then married Sheila Carolyn Madison on July 24, 1982 at Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant.
Following his college education, Ed sold grain dryers for 2 years. He returned to Mt. Pleasant to work at Home Furniture. He was then offered a sales position of Daystrom Furniture, selling dinette sets to stores. In 1979, he returned to Home Furniture. In 1984, Ed purchased the business from his father. During the time that he owned Home Furniture, he was the manager for several apartments. During that time, he also maintained a rural Sunday paper route for the Des Moines Register. Ed sold the furniture business in 2010. He continued to own several buildings in town, and refurbished the former Veterans Club into retail space.
Ed was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he was a Trustee of the church in addition to holding several offices in the church throughout the years. For over 20 years, Ed was a member of the Lions Club. In his spare time, Ed was a "champion" player of pinochle.
Those thankful for sharing in Ed's life include his wife Sheila of Mt. Pleasant; 3 sons - Jason Kiesey of Des Moines, Joshua Kiesey and his wife Amber of Golden, CO and Joel Kiesey of Boulder, CO; 1 brother - Kent Kiesey and his partner Sam Lisuzzo of Chicago; 1 sister - Dianna Penrod and her husband Mike of Cedar Rapids, IA; and 2 grandchildren - Klara and Kenton Kiesey of Golden, CO.
His parents and first wife precede him in death.
