Coleta R. "Connie" Garmoe, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Friends may call from 9:00 AM to 1:45 PM on Tuesday, November 3 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will be present from 12 Noon to 1:45 PM on Tuesday. At 1:45, the procession will proceed to Forest Home Cemetery for a graveside funeral service at 2:00 PM
Mrs. Garmoe, the former Coleta Rae Nichols, was born February 26, 1944 in Burlington, Iowa. She was the daughter of Melvin F. and Edith M. (nee White) Nichols. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1962. On her birthday on February 26, 1963 in Oquawka, IL, Connie was united in marriage to Ronald Lee Garmoe.
Prior to her marriage, Connie detassled corn, was a cook at the Drive-In in Mt. Pleasant and sold tickets at the Temple Theater in Mt. Pleasant. After her marriage, she stayed at home to raise her family and also baby-sit for other people. She then worked briefly at the former Metromail Corporation. Connie then began a long career at the former Heatilator Industries in Mt. Pleasant (now Hearth & Home Technologies). For 32 years, she worked on the assembly line and in the paint shop. She retired in 2005.
Connie was a member of the Heatilator Silver Circle Club. She helped care for her siblings in their later years. She never turned down the opportunity to cheer on her favorite teams - the St. Louis Cardinals, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Dallas Cowboys. Connie, however, truly loved to stay at home to spend time with her grandchildren and attend their activities.
Those thankful for sharing in Connie's life include her husband of 52 years, Ron of Mt. Pleasant; 3 children - Scott Garmoe, Brett Garmoe and his wife Teresa and Barb Garmoe, all of Mt. Pleasant; 3 grandchildren - Bailee, Brady and Cody Garmoe, all of Mt. Pleasant; a special sister-in-law, Ilynne Nichols of Bushnell, IL; 1 niece, 3 nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
Her parents, 3 sisters - Maryetta Starbuck, Betty Tognetti and Bonnie Nichols (in infancy), 1 brother, Robert Nichols, 3 brothers-in-law, Albert Tognetti, Harold Garmoe and Donald Starbuck and 2 nephews precede Connie in death.
Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Cardiovascular Disease Intensive Care Unit at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
