Alberta Saltzman Obituary
Alberta E. (Mrs. Wilfred) Saltzman, 96, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, January 07, 2016 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral service for Mrs. Saltzman will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 11 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 803 East Mapleleaf Drive in Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Earl Swigart, Pastor, Lockridge Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sheridan Cemetery, rural Mt. Union, IA. Friends may call from 1-7 PM on Sunday, January 10 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 3-5 Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Saltzman, the former Alberta Elizabeth Mumme, was born October 5, 1919 in Shickley, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Arthur and Rosa (Totemeier) Mumme. She received her education at rural country schools in Nebraska. She moved to the southeast Iowa area (her mother's home area) in 1936. On June 1, 1941 in Keota, Iowa, Alberta was united in marriage to Wilfred Daniel Saltzman, Sr. Mr. Saltzman died Saturday, October 21, 2010 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Saltzman was a longtime cook for the former Sarah Beckwith P.E.O. Home and then the Van Vorhies Haus in Mt. Pleasant, from which she retired. Alberta was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for more than 40 years, and a member of the church's Mission Circle. Alberta will be remembered for her pies, which were a part of her ministry in her church. She made an untold number of pies for numerous activities of the church, most especially for the Deacons of the church to give to visitors. Alberta also made pies to sell at the local Farmer's Market.
Those thankful for sharing in Alberta's life include a son and his wife, Junior and Janet Saltzman of Ft. Wayne, IN; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Her parents, husband, a son - Eugene Saltzman and 2 daughters - Karen Hood and Judith Ann McCabe precede Alberta in death.
