Warren Pidgeon Obituary

Warren A. Pidgeon, 88, of Salem, died Friday, March 9, 2018 at Park Place Elder Living in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral service for Mr. Pidgeon will be held at 10:30 on Wednesday, March 14 at the Salem Friends Church. Pastor Jared Haley will officiate. Burial will be in the Salem South Cemetery with military honors conducted by Iowa Military Funeral Honors and the Henry County Honor Guard. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Tuesday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 5:30-7:30 PM Tuesday Evening.

Warren Arthur Pidgeon was born August 22, 1929 in Salem, Iowa. He was the son of William A. and Coephine (Hallowell) Pidgeon. He first attended a rural country school and then went into Salem where he graduated from Salem High School.
Warren was called to the service of his country during the Korean War. He entered the United States Army at Ft. Des Moines on January 12, 1951. He received training as a cook at the Area Food Service School at Ft. Riley Kansas. He served the 16th Field Hospital, Fifth Army Area in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on December 29, 1952 at Ft. Custer, MI.
During his time in Germany, Warren met his future wife. In October of 1952 in Germany, Warren was united in marriage to Johanna Esther Raab.
Warren returned to the US at his discharge and was later joined by Esther. Together, they settled on the Pidgeon Family Century Farm, where Warren raised livestock and grain. Farming was Warren's life and love. He seldom left the farm, except for a yearly trip to the Iowa State Fair to see the new farm implements. With Esther, they maintained a large garden for their family.
Warren was a member of the Salem Friends Church and the American Legion Post of Salem.
Those thankful for sharing in Warren's life include his wife of 65 years, Esther of Salem; 4 children and their spouses - Helene and Michael White of Lebanon, MO, Larry & Dianne Pidgeon of Salem, Joanne and John Lateulere of Phoenix, AZ and John and Tammy Pidgeon of New London; a brother and his wife, William and Linda Pidgeon of Houghton, IA;10 grandchildren and their spouses - Michael & Rhonda White, Todd and Mallory White, Scott & Debra White, Danny and Sabrina Pidgeon, Katie and Grant Mitchell and Kelly and Craig Belknap; Rebecca and David Tischler, James Weber, Darien Pidgeon, and Makenna Pidgeon; 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
His parents precede him in death.
