Muriel L. Cornick, 98, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
A funeral service for Mrs. Cornick will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 2 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Deborah J. Stowers, Senior Pastor, First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 6:00 PM on Sunday, Feb. 1 at the funeral home. The family will be present to receive friends on Monday, Feb. 2 from 12 Noon until the time of the service.

Mrs. Cornick, the former Muriel Louise Alley, was born April 3, 1916 in Burlington, IA. She was the daughter of Truman H. and Clara L. (nee Biklen) Alley. On September 27, 1941 in Mt. Pleasant, Muriel was united in marriage to Marvin Nelson Cornick. Mr. Cornick died Monday, June 28, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Muriel graduated from Burlington High School in 1935 and the Burlington School of Cosmetology. She was licensed beautician and practiced cosmetology for a brief time. She returned to further her education at the former Burlington Junior College and, in 1940, received a B.A. degree in Home Economics from Iowa Wesleyan College. She taught for a year at Oakville High School. After marriage, Muriel became a full time homemaker on the farm. She was a dedicated wife and mother who loved being a farmer and the wife of a farmer. She dearly enjoyed tending to her garden and flowers, most especially raising snap dragons and marigolds. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the former Memarco Sunday School class of the church.
Those thankful for sharing in her life include her 4 children: David N. Cornick and his wife Gayle of Mt. Pleasant; Craig M. Cornick and his wife Sandy of Burlington, IA, John H. Cornick of Mt. Pleasant and Sue V. Mills and her husband Dean of Columbia, MO; 9 grandchildren - Dr. Jason Mills, Dr. Jesse Mills and Nathan Cornick, Grant Cornick, Wade Cornick, Alec Cornick, Lance Cornick, Alisa Cornick and Lacey Cornick and a special niece, Diane Timmerman of Burlington
Her parents, her step mother, Nellie Sater Alley, her husband and 2 sisters. Maxine Slocum and Bernice Wallman precede Muriel in death.
