Larry Allen Smith, Sr., 59, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, IA.
A celebration of life for Larry Smith will be held beginning at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 6 followed by a memorial funeral service at 1:30 PM at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. Pastor Paul Miller of the Bible Missionary Church will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.

Larry Allen Smith Sr. was born April 30, 1957 in Mt. Pleasant. He was the son of Myron and Carol Jean (Figge) Smith. Larry graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1975. On October 17, 1975 at the Morning Sun United Methodist Church in Morning Sun, IA, Larry was united in marriage to Darla Jean Crow.
For 13 years, Larry was employed by Doane's Products of Muscatine, a canine food manufacturing company. Larry was forced to take disability retirement from the company.
Mr. Smith was of the Methodist faith. Larry was a collector of many things. He had a collection of old pennies and sabers, swords and machetes. He also owned a fascinating collection of miniature cars.
Those thankful for sharing in Larry's life include his wife Darla of Mt. Pleasant, his mother, Carol Jean of Colorado Springs, CO; his children - Chris Wilson, Daniel Guiseppe, Jeremy Smithburg, Joshua Smithburg, Jennifer Smith, Larry Allen Smith, Jr. and Starla Smith; his siblings - Gaylynn Smith, Terry Smith, Jay Smith and Loretta Jennings; 5 grandchildren - DeMonte Smith, Marquise Blankenship, DeAndre Blankenship, Christopher Johnson and Jeffrey Chance with one grandchild soon to be born; 1 great granddaughter - Aliyah Cole and a host of nieces and nephews.
His father, 1 brother - David Schwartzendruber and 2 grandchildren - Demetrios Blankenship and Lisa Chance precede Larry in death.
