Betty Jean "Jeannie" DeWitt, 70, of Mt. Pleasant, IA and formerly of Farmington, IA, died Friday, August 22, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA.
A private family service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mt. Pleasant. Burial will be in the Greenglade Cemetery, Farmington. There will be no visitation. Online condolences may be directed to www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com.
Betty "Jeannie" DeWitt was born September 18, 1943 in Keokuk, IA. She was the daughter of Clair Arthur and Bertha Belle (nee Cochenour) McBride. She grew up in Luray, Missouri where she attended grade school. She completed her high school education in Kahoka, graduating from Kahoka High School in 1962. On November 22, 1962 in Carthage, Illinois, Jeannie was united in marriage to Ronald Lee DeWitt.
For over 20 years, Jeannie was a sales association and department manager of the Walmart Department Store in Mt. Pleasant. She retired in 2012. Jeannie and Ronald made their home in Farmington for many years, moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1983. Jeannie loved to tend to her flower garden where she also cared for hummingbirds by keeping the feeders in her garden full. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She had sewed quilted blankets for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jeannie also crafted homemade Christmas ornaments for them as well.
Those thankful for sharing in Jeannie's life include her husband of 51 years, Ronald of Mt. Pleasant; 4 children - Ronotta McCormick and her husband Daniel of Mt. Pleasant, Ronna Mayberry and her husband Alan of Mt. Pleasant, Ronald DeWitt and his wife Belinda of Solon, IA, and Regina Waddle of Mt. Pleasant; her mother - Bertha McBride of Farmington; a brother - Clair McBride and his wife Marlene of Farmington; a sister, Nancie Holmes and her husband Larry of Kahoka, MO; 10 grandchildren - Amanda Sargent and husband Tyler, Armand McCormick and wife Sarah, Brian Mayberry and fiancée Sarah Schinke, Angelina Bucheit and husband David, Jennifer Mitchell and husband Kyle, Elijah DeWitt, Tayler Waddle, Chandler DeWitt, Tabian Waddle and Tauren Waddle; 5 great grandchildren - Daniel Bucheit, Matthew Bucheit, Gabrien McCormick, Patrick Bucheit and Alizabeth Sargent.
Jeannie's father precedes her in death.
