Everett Dale Sempf, 91, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at his residence.
A funeral service for Dale Sempf will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Church of the Open Bible, 306 North Cherry Street, Mount Pleasant. The Reverend Michael D. Johnson, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, with graveside military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9:00 PM on Thursday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday evening.

Everett Dale Sempf was born July 8, 1923 on a family farm southwest of Oakland Mills, rural Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He was the son of William Edward and Elizabeth (nee Carver) Sempf. Dale attended rural country school. On April 16, 1947 in Iowa City, IA, Dale was united in marriage to Betty June Griest. Mrs. Sempf died Sunday, April 23, 2000 at the Henry Country Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Dale was called to the service of his country during World War II. He was inducted into the United States Army on June 7, 1944 at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He served as an infantryman in Troop G, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division of the 8th Army. He served on the front lines in Leyte, the Philippines, Luzon and New Guinea and as part of the occupying forces in Japan as the war ended. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on May 17, 1946 at the Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas Separation Center.
Upon his return home, Dale worked at a local quarry, the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, IA and the Burlington Basket Factory. For 36 years, Dale was a plumbing and heating service technician for Hannum's Plumbing and Heating in Mt. Pleasant. Following his retirement in 1986, Dale returned to Hannum's on a part time basis, working primarily in the stock room. Mr. Sempf was a member of the Church of the Open Bible in Mt. Pleasant.
Those thankful for sharing in Dale's life include 2 sons and their wives - Kurt D. & Robin Sempf and Kevin D. & Jill Sempf, all of Cedar Rapids, IA. 3 grandchildren - Ryan K. Sempf, Noah D. Sempf and Lauren Sempf, all of Cedar Rapids, as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dale is preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Jean Sempf, 2 brothers - Lloyd and Cletus Sempf and a sister, Hazel Feehan.
