Beulah A. Latta, 95, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, October 26, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
A Memorial Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Trenton United Methodist Church, Trenton, Iowa. Pastor Jeffrey A. McPheron will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Mills Cemetery, rural Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Friends are also invited to join the family in a luncheon to be served in the church's Sunshine Room immediately following the memorial service. The Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Mrs. Latta, the former Beulah Ardella Dickey, was born March 12, 1920 in Bagley, Iowa. She was the daughter of Robert Hamlin and Elizabeth "Bessie" (Phillips) Dickey. She graduated from high school and attended 2 years of college to obtain her Teachers Certification. On May 20, 1941 at her parent's home in Redfield, Iowa, Beulah was united in marriage to The Rev. Lloyd A. Latta. Rev. Latta died Monday, December 9, 2013 at their residence in rural Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Latta was a teacher until she began to raise her family. After raising her family, she was a substitute teacher in various schools. She assisted her husband in his ministry for the United Methodist Churches in Garden Grove, Afton, Osceola, Red Oak, Ft. Dodge, Washington, Mt. Pleasant and Trenton, the church's district offices in Newton and Mason City and Friendship Haven in Ft. Dodge.
Beulah was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Chapter NZ of P.E.O. She was an adept seamstress, sewing many clothes while raising her family. She loved cooking, baking and tending to her garden. Beulah cherished the time with her family on their farm in their retirement years.
Those thankful for sharing in Beulah's life include four children - Marilynn Knight of Columbia, SC, Rose Laliwala of Albany, NY, Richard Latta and his wife Nelly and Robert Latta, all of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, and 3 brothers and a sister - Herb, Harold, Russell and Marjorie precede Beulah in death.
