A. Gohn Obituary

A Marguerite "Pinky" Gohn, 97, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, May 28, 2018 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

A funeral service for Mrs. Gohn will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 1st at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The Reverend Deborah J. Stowers, Senior Pastor, First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 6 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. The family will be present to receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Friday morning.

Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the First United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice in Marguerite's name.

Marguerite was born December 27, 1920 in Eldon, Iowa. She lived briefly as an infant at the Ottumwa Orphans Home until she was adopted by her parents, Benjamin and Elma (Lauer) McCosh. She was raised in the Mt. Union area and graduated from Mt. Union High School in 1941. During her high school years, she worked at the Princess Candy Kitchen. Immediately following high school, she accepted a position with Abbott Laboratories in Waukegan, IL. She remained there until December of 1941 with the breakout of World War II. Marguerite returned home to accept a position as a Production Operator for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. She carpooled from Mt. Pleasant with a group that included Laurence Gohn, with whom a courtship ensued. On November 27, 1955, Laurence and Marguerite were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Gohn died August 18, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Marguerite worked at IAAP for 30 years, retiring in 1982. While working at the plant, Marguerite was a member of the Union of the Operating Engineers Local 150. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant and the Love Circle of the church's United Methodist Women. Marguerite was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge - Safety Chapter #409 and the Business and Professional Women of Mt. Pleasant.

Those thankful for sharing in Marguerite's life include nieces and nephews: Jeffrey Gohn, Chuck & Rae McNeely of Lockridge, IA; Kenneth & Arlene McNeely, Everett McNeely, Sonja Mysliwiec, Karen & Ron Bohnestengel, all of Florida and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband and 2 sisters, Thelma Selby and Wilma Truesdell, precede Marguerite in death
